February is fantastic on Maui Nui our special events range from Open Studio tours with local artists island wide to a performance by the famous Martha Graham Dance Company to a World Whale Day parade and concert. Enjoy Friday town parties on Maui, Wailuku is on the first Friday, Lahaina is on the second Friday, Makawao is on the third Friday and Paia rounds out the party list with their event on fourth Friday. Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2012

This statewide-juried exhibition will features artists whose work best captures the extraordinary people of Hawai‘i as portrait subjects. Whale Tales

Whale Tales – a free, public event that provides ocean enthusiasts an opportunity to learn about whales and the oceans from world-renowned scientists, photographers, and filmmakers. The program starts at 3 pm on the 3rd and 10 am on the 4th. Sponsored by Makana Aloha Foundation, Whale Tales, an annual event hosted by Whale Trust, is dedicated to raising awareness about whales and the oceans, while raising funds to support whale research conducted off Maui. Maui Open Studios Tour

The celebration continues through the day to 8pm at Kalama Park, on South Kihei Road. The Celebration features fantastic live entertainment by some of Hawaii’s top performers, great food by Maui restaurants, activities for kids, a huge “Made on Maui” art fair, and educational environmental displays. Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational

There will be 25 top Plein Air painters from Hawaii and the mainland painting all around Maui. The program kicks off with Plein Air painting at DT Fleming Beach in Kapalua on the 18th. Thereafter the painters go to various locations on Maui, see the website below for the locations. The event culminates in reception hosted by Maui No Ka Oi magazine at the Village Gallery in Lahaina in the evening on Friday, February 25th. The last official event is a coffee with the participating artists in the morning on Saturday, February 26th at the Village Gallery in Lahaina.
